A celebration and proclamation ceremony was held in Lafayette for Arbor Day.
At the ceremony, a tree was planted at Heymann Memorial Park. The proclamation read at the event pinpointed the values of planting trees to, "improve air quality, provide shade, reduce storm water run-off, decrease noise pollution, provide wildlife habitat, increase property values, attract tourists and businesses, beautify neighborhoods, and create a stronger sense of community."
Lafayette has Tree City USA recognition for the 30th consecutive year, according to LCG.
Arbor Day is celebrated at different dates throughout the US. National Arbor Day is celebrated every year on the last Friday in April.
