Krewe of Triton postpones plans to celebrate formal ball

The Krewe of Triton has become the latest group to cancel their Mardi Gras ball.

In a message sent to members today, the krewe says their formal ball won't happen this year.

"This decision was made out of an abundance of caution and respect for the health and wellness of our members, patrons and all who celebrate with us," the krewe said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Organizers say the time that would normally be spent planning the ball will now be focused on smaller events and recruiting new members. The krewe is also planning on participating in smaller events such as parades and parties throughout the Mardi Gras season, but will not be offering ball items.

"Because of COVID-19 and the decision to not have a ball we will not be offering ball items" the krewe states in a message about beads and other throws.

"We appreciate your understanding in this matter as we are all trying to maneuver these uncertain times, with the general well-being of everyone involved in mind," organizers said.
