The contest promotion begins with, “You could win rider spots for two in the 2022 Rio parade.”

Back on January 8th, the Krewe of Rio canceled its Mardi Gras parade, which was, well, a bummer. But guess what: the Krewe of Rio has found a way to get you and your house—yes, your house—to essentially create its own Mardi Gras parade.

There's a contest, and you can win!! What do you have to do? Let’s return to the promotional copy. “…Decorate the outside of your home and send a pic…” Now, with Rio being Rio, it was one thing to cancel the parade. But the group refused to cancel the Mardi Gras spirit, and in doing so, Rio has decided to do something really neat for people throughout Acadiana.

“We’re asking you to decorate your houses, and be a part of the Mardi Gras spirit.,” says 2021 Rio King Gill Zaunbrecher.

Any advice for the folks who choose to participate? Tips for those who want to decorate their homes in festive colors and maybe, just maybe, get front row, top float seats in the 2020 Krewe of Rio parade? “Well. be as creative as you can,” suggests Rio Queen Tanya Zaunbrecher. “I don’t think we have a theme, so pick a theme and make your house look like that theme for their Mardi Gras floats aka houses.”

And there are always naysayers, so what about those folks who say, ‘well, I don’t know…?” “It’ll get ‘em into their Mardi Gras spirit, it’ll help everyone else out who’s bummed. Do it like Christmas decorations, and spread some joy,” adds Gill Zaunbrecher.

And are there any rules? Well, cue the promotional copy one more time. Must be 21 or older, Enter at official rules at katc.com/contests. One other fun fact: Since the parade was canceled for 2021, Gill and Tanya Zaunbrecher get to be king and queen next year; the only two-term king and queen in Rio.

Enter the contest, you can win, you can be right there on the parade route, and you ride in the parade, too!

(Note: Enter the contest and send your pictures at www.katc.com/contests).

There might not be a parade this year but Mardi Gras requires you to leave a little sparkle wherever you go.

Below is how to enter.

  2. Take a picture.
  3. Make sure you are 21
