JCPenney reopens some stores including one Lafayette location

Posted at 12:43 PM, May 29, 2020

Weeks after filing for bankruptcy JCPenney is opening hundreds of stores including one in Lafayette.

The retailer said that it reopened its doors at 150 stores in 27 states including the location on Louisiana Avenue in Lafayette.

The store located in the Acadiana Mall remains closed.

“We’ve now reopened a third of our stores and plan to have nearly 500 reopened by June 3. To do this, we’re operating differently and taking a strategic and consistent approach, keeping associate and customer safety as our top priority,” said Jim DePaul, executive vice president of stores at JCPenney. “We are excited to welcome back our loyal customers and dedicated associates. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive as we reopen our doors, focused primarily on our enhanced safety measures.”

According to the JCPenney store locator, six locations are open in Louisiana including two in Baton Rouge, one in Alexandria and one in Houma.

The Louisiana Avenue store will have shorter hours of operation from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily and 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Stores across the country are also offering shopping for at-risk customers Wednesday through Friday at 11 a.m.

JCPenney closed temporarily because of health concerns and stay-at-home orders prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The newly reopened JCPenney stores brought the company's total to 304 reopened stores.
