Police chase, crash shut down I-10 West near Louisiana Avenue

A police crash that originated in Iberville Parish ended with a fatal crash in Lafayette Wednesday night.

According to WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Iberville Parish Deputies spotted a stolen vehicle out of New Orleans heading to Lafayette around 8:30 p.m. A pursuit ensued, with State Police assisting and eventually spiking the stolen vehicle near Louisiana Avenue in Lafayette Parish.

Authorities say the stolen vehicle crashed into a road maintenance truck and both vehicles went up in flames.

The crash caused closures along a portion of I-10. As of 10:40 p.m., I-10 West remains closed at Louisiana Ave (Mile Marker 104). Congestion remains at approximately 1 mile in length. Traffic is being diverted from I-10 to Exit 109 (Breaux Bridge). Traffic is also being diverted from I-10 West to LA 415 (Lobdell).

State Police have shut down the interstate at Lobdell (LA Hwy 415) and are diverting traffic to LA Hwy 415 northbound to US Hwy 190 westbound.

Two people inside of the road maintenance truck were transported a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No suspects were seen exiting the stolen vehicle, WBRZ reports.

State Police haven't released any further information on the crash.
