A fire is under investigation at a home belonging to Trayford Pellerin's family.
Ethel Brown Trayford's aunt and owner of the home on Vermont Drive in Carencro says she noticed smoke in the laundry room and the family escaped before the fire spread.
Brown and her grandson were in the house Friday night. She says she was asleep on the couch...when something woke her up
"We walk over to the laundry room, and it was full of smoke. He said Mawmaw run, get out of the house. We grab the door, we get into the lawn, the roof of the garage burst into flames," Brown said.
No one was injured in the fire. The home is a total loss along with two cars and most of the family's belongings.
The family says they have each other and are blessed. Among the charged remains of the home, the family found an untouched obituary of Trayford. Pellerin was shot and killed by Lafayette Police over the summer.
"I said he was my angel. He was our angel. He knows we loved him, and he loved us," Brown said.
A cause for the fire was not determined.
