A holiday free store was set up today in Lafayette to provide toys, games, and other items for Christmas.

The Democratic Socialists of America, Southwest Louisiana Chapter set up the store at Fightinville Fresh Market pavilion on W Simcoe Street in Lafayette.

The items available are new and gently-used children's toys, books, games, clothing, gear. All were donated by DSA members from the region. The items were for those who are in need of gifts, regardless of ability to pay.

"We are all about community and we want to eliminate that holiday stress. Maybe you don't have time. Maybe you don't have money but everybody deserves a good Christmas with their community and their family," volunteer Natasha Hymel said.

The market was held outdoors and masks and social distancing were enforced.
