Healing House; Hope for Grieving Children hosted its 3rd annual Blue Butterfly Children's Ball today.

The event was held at River Oaks Event Center in Lafayette.

It's a "Father-Daughter", "Mother-Son", "Big-Little" gala, which aims to provide families with a magical time.

The event featured music, dancing, train rides, a photo booth, crafts, activities and lots of storybook characters and princesses, as well as lunch.

"November is children's grief awareness month and the blue butterfly is a symbol for children's grief awareness and what we hope today is that families understand how important it is to spend time together. The families that come to Healing House have all lost someone they've loved," said Kim Thackston, development director.

All proceeds benefit the mission of Healing House and benefit local Acadiana families that have experienced the death of a parent or sibling.

Healing House; Hope for Grieving Children provides an atmosphere that allows children ages 4 to 18 to express their grief through interactive play, expressive art work and discussion groups with peers experiencing the same trauma.

All services provided by the Healing House are free of charge and run by volunteers.
