Graduation ceremonies began on Thursday at Cajun Field for high school students in Lafayette Parish.

The Cajundome and LPSS will live stream each ceremony via their Facebook pages.

The day started with students at Northside High taking the field at 7:30 am to accept their diplomas.

"This pain could have made us bitter or better," said one Northside graduate. "And the challenges we faced were designed to make us or break us. But ultimately our choice was to become victors and not victors. And that's why we're here today."

Acadiana High seniors held their ceremony on Thursday night at 6:00 pm.

Acadiana High graduates shared in the enthusiam, saying, "Go ahead, go class of 2020! Congrats to all the other schools that are graduating. We did this and we all got through this together. It sucks, but we did it. Class of 2020, strong and proud."

On Friday, July 10 graduates from David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy will receive their diplomas beginning at 7:30 am and will be followed by Early College Academy graduates at 11:00 am and Lafayette High graduates at 6:00 pm.

On Saturday, July 11, Comeaux High will hold its ceremony at 7:30 am, followed by Carencro High at 11:00 am and Southside High at 6:00 pm.

Ceremonies were moved to Cajun Field after LPSS learned that the ceremonies scheduled to take place at the Cajundome had not been approved by the state.

The decision for ceremonies at Cajun Field was made at a special board meeting on Tuesday.

LPSS says the same security measures such as wearing masks and keeping socially distant will remain in effect. After you sit, you will be able to take off your mask, but if you get up, the mask must go back on.

No concessions will be sold, but water will be able to be purchased.

Guests will be escorted to seats (first come, first serve) using two separate entrances; graduates will have their own entrance.
