Free stroke screening today in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. - Today is World Stroke Awareness Day.

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S.

One-in-four adults will have a stroke in their lifetime.

That's why today, from 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm, the Acadiana Vascular Institute will hold free carotid artery ulta sound screenings at their clinic at 129 Rue Louis XIV.

Acadiana Vascular Center along with the Vein Center of Louisiana is a group of 4 vascular surgeons that treat vascular disease processes through the body. They treat an assortment of arterial and venous diseases.

"The purpose is as strokes are such a leading cause of death and disability across the nation, specifically as it's consolidated to the Southeastern portion of the United States, and it's very consolidated in Louisiana," said Dr. Jay Luke III, MD Acadiana Vascular Center. "So as bad as the numbers are nationwide, the incidence is dramatically increased in our area."
