Free "self-serve" pantry opens in Lafayette

A free pantry has opened up in Lafayette.

Situated in the Fightingville neighborhood, the pantry is located at 315 West Simcoe Street at the corner of Simcoe and Madison. The pantry was installed by the The Southwest Louisiana chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America at the Fightingville Fresh Market pavilion.

They say the pantry runs on a take-what-you-need, give-what-you-can model that allows people to self-assess their level of need and ability to give and does not involve means testing, paperwork, record-keeping, or charitable write-offs for either stockers or recipients.

It will be open at all times of day or night.
