The first step have been taken to replace portable buildings with a permanent classroom wing at LJ Alleman Middle School.

A sign has recently been placed at the corner of Roselawn Boulevard And West Bayou Parkway informing the neighborhood of the commercial development.

Lafayette School Board member Justin Centanni posted about the sign on Facebook to explain. "This is the first step in replacing all portable buildings on campus with a permanent classroom wing," Centanni's post reads. "The Lafayette Parish School System has owned this particular property for such a long time that it hasn't been platted in accordance with the current procedures required by the Lafayette Consolidated Government Planning & Zoning Department."

Centanni adds that the notice indicates that the property will soon be surveyed and that those results will need approval from Planning and Zoning for inclusion in their permanent records.

A public hearing on the zoning will be held August 12, 2019 at 5:30 pm at Clifton Chenier Center, Building B.
