Lafayette firefighters were called to the 100 block of Jeanmard Drive in Maison de la Paix at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, a spokesman said.

When they arrived, the duplex apartment, under construction, was completely engulfed in flames. Emergency crews protected the neighboring dwellings from the intense heat while extinguishing the fire. One of the neighboring apartments sustained minor exterior heat damage. The duplex apartment was destroyed.

Fire officials determined that fire was intentionally set. Fire investigators are asking the public for assistance with any information regarding the early morning fire. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS or Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716.
