The Scott Fire Department is one of four Louisiana departments to be awarded federal funds to obtain PPE for response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fire Chief Chad Sonnier says that the department applied through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The program, according to Sonnier, provides financial assistance directly to eligible fire departments for critical equipment and Personal Protective Equipement (PPE).

The department's application was to obtain Level 3-compliant reusable isolation coveralls and reusable full-face respirators for each firefighter.

The Department was notified on Friday, July 17, that they had been chosen to receive funding.

Sonnier says that nearly $10,000 of federal funds will be spent to fit each firefighter with the protective equipment to keep them and civilians safe while limiting transmission of the virus.
