Fans send Carencro football team to state championships

Fans of the Carencro High School football team cheered players on Tuesday ahead of the state championship game.

The public was invited to attend a parade to send the team off to the big game. And before that, supporters were encouraged to write fan mail to the players and coach.

The Bears will face off against four-time and reigning Class 4A state champions, the Edna Karr Cougars of New Orleans. Carencro is playing for a title for the first time since 2011, and hasn't won a title since 1992.

"I want to thank Bear Nation, the parents, families, fans, and the community in general," said Carencro head football coach Tony Courville at the parade. "They've been so supportive through this year. We are just so very proud to be representing them today."

Tonight's game is being held at Northwestern State University and began at 6:00 p.m.

We'll have the latest on the game in our 10 p.m. sportscast.
