Faith leaders host drive-thru prayer event, blessing of masks

Clergy from various congregations in the area joined together for a drive-through prayer event at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday. The event was hosted by Acadiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster's (VOAD) Faith Committee.

Faith leaders across denominations offered prayers for the community as well as blessings on people's masks.

The event was held as a way to unite those of faith across denominational and racial divisions, say organizers, and as a way to draw close to God during a time of social distancing.

One leader says these events bring the community together during such a difficult time.

"There's a body of people, churches coming together in community and unity to pray for and bless the masks we are all wearing as we are all going through this chaos," explained Linton Broussard, Acadiana VOAD Faith Committee Chair.
