Lafayette firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a house fire in the 100 block of Ike B Street after the owner of the home called 911 to report that her home was filled with smoke.
When firefighters arrived shortly before 5 a.m., the back of the single family home was fully engulfed in flames. The occupant of the home was safely outside at a neighbor's home. The fire was brought under control after nearly 15 minutes. The home sustained minor damage.
Investigators discovered that the homeowner was inside her bedroom when she began to hear the smoke alarm beeping. She walked to the rear of her home and noticed heavy smoke coming from another bedroom. She quickly called 911 and exited the building. No injuries were reported.
American Red Cross was contacted to offer assistance, as the homeowner lost almost everything in the early morning fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
