Former Lafayette High star Mondo Duplantis won a virtual gold medal this weekend.

Duplantis, 20, participated in The Ultimate Garden Clash - Pole Vault Edition presented by World Athletics.

Duplantis, Renaud Lavillenie and Sam Kendricks competed by pole vaulting in their yards. In the end, Duplantis and Lavillenie tied for the gold. Kendricks got the bronze.

World Athletics, formerly known as the International Amateur Athletic Federation and International Association of Athletics Federations, is the international governing body for the sport of athletics, covering track and field, cross country running, road running, racewalking, mountain running and ultrarunning.

In February Duplantis broke the world pole vaulting record at the Copernicus Cup in Poland.

Duplantis jumped 6.17m in that competition. A week later, he broke his own record by jumping 6.18m.
