Downtown Lafayette is reminding shoppers to keep small businesses in mind while shopping this holiday season.

At a press conference on Tuesday, November 24, downtown officials gathered to announce shopping opportunities during Small Business Saturday on November 28.

"We all hear about the incredible deals on Black Friday at major stores, as well as the online sales during Cyber Monday on websites like Amazon, but many people still do not know about Small Business Saturday," Anita Begnaud, CEO of Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited said. "This day is a reminder for people to go out and support local businesses run by your neighbors, colleagues, and friends - people who live, work, and raise their families in our community."

Begnaud says that, as the backbone of their communities, shoppers should show love this Saturday to the local shops and restaurants while maneuvering through the holiday deals and steals associated with Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Small Business Saturday was first observed nationwide on November 27, 2010, as a way for individuals to patronize brick and mortar businesses at the kick-off of the holiday shopping season.

Businesses in Downtown Lafayette are ready to welcome shoppers with their own deals and one-of-a-kind items. Begnaud says that shopping locally on Small Business Saturday and any day of the year helps support families and friends from the community.

"It's important to support local businesses every year, but especially this one." said local artist and ADORN retail shop owner Adrian Guidry, "By shopping in Downtown Lafayette, you're not only buying a unique gift, you're supporting individuals who took a chance on their dreams and work with passion every day. You are helping local stores continue to thrive and stay in business."
