DOTD sets up bus staging area in Lafayette Parish

A bus staging area has been set up at St. Julien Park in Broussard as DOTD makes final preparations for Hurricane Delta's arrival in Louisiana.

DOTD Public Information Officer Deidra Druillet says that an estimated 10 coach buses and 2 para-transit vehicles will be staged at the park should evacuations be necessary once the storm passes.

"If we do receive a call requesting vehicles to assist with an evacuation measure, then those vehicles can be sent to those particular areas," she said.

The staging area will also serve as a central location where equipment is held for response after the storm has passed.

"It's very important for us to be able to have all the equipment we will need to provide transportation assistance," said Druillet. "Once the storm passes we can get out there quickly to provide assistance to the public. "

Another part of Thursday's preparations included clearing debris from culverts in low lying areas of the parish.

Druillet said that debris removal is necessary so that water can run freely through drainage systems and reduce the risk of flooding.
