Decorations going up on downtown trees

The decorations are going up on Lafayette's downtown trees continues.

The Christmas Tree Extravaganza is a tree-decorating contest that is held every December. The trees go up in Parc International, and groups, schools, or businesses pay $100 to decorate one. The funds pay for the trees and help fund the event.

Once the trees are decorated, you can check them out and vote for your favorite. It's also a good way to learn about local businesses, and it's beautiful at night when the trees are lit.

We caught up with Teurlings Catholic High School's decorating team, lead by art teacher Holly Tracy.

"Especially this year, I think everybody needs something to look forward to. this is something the public can come out and do safely, and it's a way to let everyone know that even though things are different, there are still nice things to come out and see, and reasons to celebrate Christmas," Tracy says.

The Teurlings tree will have traditional decorations, but also a special collection of ornaments hand-painted by Teurlings students.

"I would recommend everybody come out, and also that everybody votes for the Teurlings tree!" Tracy says.
