The Daiquiri Depo on the Evangeline Thruway sustained heavy fire damage after a fire Monday morning in Lafayette.

The Lafayette Fire Department says that at 9:44 Monday April 20, 2020, firefighters responded to the Depo in reference to a commercial fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the interior of the business.

Lafayette Fire Department spokesperson Alton Trahan say that crews forced entry and discovered the interior of the building engulfed in flames. Within ten minutes, the fire was under control. The building and its contents sustained heavy fire damage.

Trahan says that Daiquiri Depo had been closed for a few weeks. An employee with a construction company paving the road behind the business reported the fire. They were alerted by the smoke escaping from the windows and immediately called 911.

Fire officials determined the fire originated inside the daiquiri shop portion of the building.

An electrical malfunction in a surge protector utilized to power several appliances was the cause of the fire, a release states.
