The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana has launched a new support program for Dads of individuals with special needs.
The DREAMS Dads Support Group will be held on the first Friday of every month.
This month's meeting will take place on Friday, August 7 at 6:30 pm at Jammin Java on Verot School Road in Lafayette.
Masks and social distancing will be required at the meeting.
The Foundation says that the group will connect dads of children or adults with special needs to discuss topics that impact daily living related to caring for a loved one with simple or complex medical conditions.
Those conditions can include epilepsy, autism, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, down syndrome and more.
Dads who attend are asked to do so without their children, spouses/siginificant others or caregivers to allow for discussion in a comfortable setting away from home.
"At the beginning of the year, DREAMS started up a support group for moms and that launched with great success. We decided to start one up for dads because we saw a need in the special needs community for people to reach out and talk to about their concerns with other parents who are going through similar circumstances," stated D.R.E.A.M.S. Founder and Executive Director Brian Watkins in a press release.
