Lafayette's CREATE Initiative is launching free professional development sessions for local musicians.

The series, offered twice monthly, will run from Wednesday, October 30, 2019 until Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

Musicians are encouraged to attend all the sessions in preparation for the Folk Alliance International Conference in New Orleans on January 21-25, 2020 and Louisiana International Music Exchange (LIME) during Festival International in April 2020.

The workshops will take place from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm with a networking session from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

CREATE Lafayette is working to showcase Lafayette musicians to industry representatives and prepare them to get the most out of these opportunities, the first of which is the Folk Alliance International (FAI) Conference. Coming to New Orleans in January 2020, the FAI music conference is usually held outside of the United States. CREATE is partnering with FAI, the Louisiana Lt. Governor's Office of Cultural Development, the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, Lafayette Travel, the Blackpot Camp and Festival Showcase, and the New Orleans Business Alliance to provide engagement opportunities for local musicians at the 2020 conference. With more than 4,000 music professionals, including artists, agents, managers, labels, media, and venues/festival bookers in attendance, CREATE is working with these partners to host a private showcase featuring local musicians.
