LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Police Department along with friends and family marked the third anniversary of Corporal Michael Middlebrook's death with a ceremony on Thursday.

The ceremony took place at LPD headquarters at 900 E. University Ave., in Lafayette.

LPD Interim Chief Scott Morgan and the department honored the life of Middlebrook, who is survived by his wife, daughter, and two step-daughters.

His family said they will always remember his kindness.

"We talk about him constantly, all the time," said Middlebrook's widow, Adrienne Middlebrook. "We do a lot of things to remember him. It's everyday. We pray. That's about it. Faith will get us through it."

Middlebrook was shot and killed on Oct. 1, 2017, while responding to a call at a Moss Street convenience store. The suspect in that case is facing a first degree murder charge.

The Middlebrook Foundation has been set up in his honor and to continue his mission of helping the poor and less fortunate residents of the Lafayette community.
