and last updated

The Vermilion River has started to rise now that Hurricane Laura has pushed its way into Louisiana.

KATC's Jordan Lippincott was out at the river near Ruffino's on Camellia Blvd in Lafayette with a look at current conditions.

On Wednesday, August 26, the river was reported to be a 13 feet as the storm approached the coast.

Conditions in Lafayette have worsened throughout the night and morning. Trees were reportedly tilting in the powerful winds and the rain has started to come in sideways.

The parish remains under a curfew until 6:00 am.

Many roads are showing signs of flooding and some have become difficult to navigate as rains continue to come down.
