Comeaux speech student named National Champion

Rashon Leday takes top honors; teammates Presley Nutter and Jacob Foster are National Runners-Up

One Comeaux High student is a National Champion and two teammates are Runners-Up in the National Speech and Debate Association's National Tournament.

Rashon Leday was named National Champion in the Oral Interpretation category. His teammates were National Runners Up: Presley Nutter in original Oratory, and Jacob Foster in Dramatic interpretation.

This year, the tournament was held on a virtual basis for the first time in its history. More than 300,000 students around the world competed for a chance to participate.

More than 5,000 students made it to the main event, representing more than 2,000 schools.

Comeaux qualified nine members to attend the National Tournament back in early March. Each event at the NSDA National Tournament started with 300 competitors.

Making it to Quarter Finals in Duo (top 60):
Jazmin Rodriguez and Taylor Mier

In original Oratory- Presley Nutter. Presley was the NATIONAL RUNNER UP and received a $1000 scholarship

In Dramatic Interpretation- Jacob Foster was the NATIONAL RUNNER UP and received a $1000 scholarship

In Program Oral Interpretation- Rashon Leday is the 2020 NATIONAL CHAMPION receiving a $2500 scholarship

This was the first time in Comeaux history that the school had three Main Stage Event Finalists.

Comeaux High Speech Team also won the Speech School of Excellence Sweepstakes Award.
