Some Acadiana parents now know how to safely install their child's car seat.
It's all thanks to an event held today by the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, University Medical Center New Orleans, and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
Certified technicians checked child seats to make sure they were properly installed.
They also taught parents how to make sure their kids are buckled in and their seat is secure.
"Even if the child is harnessed and facing a particular direction, if the harness straps are not right according to the directions of that seat, it could cause a tremendous injury to the child," explained Tracy Lemaire, Regional Coordinator for the passenger safety task force. "So we want every child leaving safer than when they left their house today."
If you missed today's event, Louisiana State Police troops offer free child seat checks throughout the year. You can find more information for Troop I here.
