DUSON — Charles Burke Elementary promoted reading on Friday with a book parade.
Each year, classes choose a book to represent and students dress up and have a parade around campus. The effort is to get students excited about reading.
"Sometimes they'll see books from other classes that they didn't even recognize now they're interested because they are kind of excited to see the Character come to life by them dressing up in it," 4th grader Terry Richard said.
Today, students dressed up as the characters in different books including pirates, knights and some very hungry caterpillars.
