BROUSSARD, La. — A spokesperson with the Lafayette Fire Department says that the cause of a house fire on Clara Street in Broussard remains under investigation.
According to Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department, the fire originated in the master bed/bath area of the dwelling. The interior of the home and roof also sustained heavy fire damage.
No one was home when they fire started, Trahan said.
Interviews of the home owners are pending, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This comes amid warnings from the State Fire Marshal's Office concerning the high number of house fires being reported state-wide.
On Friday, Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque posted that the structure could not be saved, but the houses on either side were protected and no one was hurt thanks to the efforts of local firefighters.
