A Carencro resident is witnessing her own family in Lake Charles having to relocate to parts of Houston and some in Lafayette.
"I do have family members that were affected and are displaced at this time. So, I just found it in my heart to reach out to people and ask for donations," said Tonja Sias. EditMove U
Even though it's an emotional time for everyone, people from all over have expressed interest in helping and want to give back.
"Actually, I did have people reach out. I did receive cash app donations via Florida, Atlanta, and to my surprise, people who were affected also made donations," said Sias.
So far, Tonja plans to load up her own vehicle but is inviting anyone from the community who wants to join her.
"Right now, I'm working out of my vehicle. I do have an SUV. But, if there's anyone willing to assist me, I'm taking any assistance."
Realizing the work to be done will go beyond one day, Tonja is prepared to take multiple trips for as long as the donations are coming in.
"It's only a hop and a skip away from us. It could've been us."
Anyone who would like to donate or has questions can contact Tonja at (337)316-0437 or send her a message on Facebook.
