At a meeting on Monday, the Carencro City Council will hear from the public concerning council representation.

The city council says they are bringing the the issue to tonight's council meeting to gain insight into possible changes and future steps.

Currently the city's council member positions are "at-large" meaning that council members represent the entire city and are not divided in to divisions or subsets. All five seats are chosen within the same election, with the top 5 candidates being selected.

The council hopes to hear from the public on whether they wish to continue the "at-large" representation, or change to have candidates elected into districts. Carencro and Duson are the only two municipalities to select "At-Large" members in Lafayette Parish.

The next council elections would be in 2022 and the council says they would like to potentially bring the idea to a public vote if there is public interest.

The meeting Monday begins at 6:00 pm.
