A Lafayette grand jury indicted a Carencro man on six counts of rape today.
Steve Paul Broussard, also known as "Scare," 52, was named in the indictment handed up today.
He's accused of sexually assaulting and raping two children over a period of years between January 2001 and December 2017.
One child was born in 1999, meaning she was five years old when the alleged sexual assaults against her began in 2001, according to the indictment. Those assaults continued through 2017, the indictment alleges.
The second child was born in 2002, and Broussard is accused of sexually assaulting and raping that child between January 2014 and 2017. That means the child was 12 when the alleged assaults began.
If convicted, Broussard faces life in prison without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. Louisiana law also allows prosecutors to seek the death penalty for the rape of a child younger than 13.
Records at the Lafayette jail show that Broussard was arrested back in September and is being held in lieu of $1.2 million bond.
