Calling all readers: Lafayette Public Library halfway to summer reading goal

and last updated

The Lafayette Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge reached the halfway mark of its community reading goal of three million minutes read. So far, the community has logged more than 1,526,000 minutes (or 50%) in the reading challenge. Now, the Library needs your help to challenge friends, family, and coworkers to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge, log their minutes, and earn prizes. You can sign up atlafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org by July 31.

The challenge is simple. Read a total of 600 minutes (or 10 hours), which is the average length of one adult audiobook. Once you’ve read 600 minutes, stop by any library location to claim a prize pack (while supplies last) and be entered for a grand prize. Then, keep reading. The more minutes you read, the more online badges you will earn; the more badges you earn, the more chance you have to win a grand prize (one gift basket for adults; one gift basket for teens; and two chances for children to win a bicycle gift card).

Prize sponsors include Broussard & David, Chick-fil-A, La Madeleine French Bakery & Café, Parish Ink, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Super 1 Foods, Tropical Smoothie, and more.

In addition to the Summer Reading Challenge, the Lafayette Public Library has partnered with Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletics for the Ragin' Readers Program. Children, kindergarten through 6th grade, are encouraged to read 600 minutes to earn prizes from Ragin' Cajuns Athletics. Two reading programs means twice the prizes.
