LAFAYETTE, La. - On Wednesday, February 18, 2020, tenth graders from Acadiana will explore different career paths, visit with local companies, and learn about education requirements during the 21st annual Career Connections.

Businesses are needed to participate in this event in all career fields. It's not too early to register at www.lafayette.org/careerconnections.

Career Connections invites 4,000 tenth graders (public, private, and home-schooled) in Lafayette, Iberia, St. Martin, and Vermilion parishes to discover a multitude of careers that are available to them.

Past years have featured more than 90 career booths at the Cajundome Convention Center for students to explore. Some of the booths include both professional and technical careers in the areas of engineering and technology, business and finance, health and human services, and arts and humanities.

"This event helps young people make informed career decisions," said Debbie Burkheiser, chairperson for the event. "The goal is to get students thinking now about how their educational choices will impact their future careers and lifestyles."

Surveys from past years have found that students have a better understanding of their likely career paths, and students who participated in the event were more likely to graduate from high school.
