The associate pastor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday and is in quarantine, according to the church.
In a Facebook post Friday, Fr. Michael Delcambre announced to parishioners that Fr. Kyle White began to experience symptoms on the morning of Wednesday, July 1. That same day he was tested for COVID-19 and the results came back positive.
Fr. White began self-quarantining at the onset of symptoms, church officials said, and was transitioning to off-campus housing. He will remain quarantined and off the property for 10 days after being asymptomatic.
The Diocese of Lafayette confirmed to our media partners at The Advocate Friday that Fr. White was doing well and is getting medical care away from the rectory.
Delcambre said in the Facebook post that neither he nor a seminarian had been in contact with White for 48 hours prior to the onset of his symptoms. Both were tested out of an abundance of caution and both results came back negative.
Delcambre will be celebrating all Masses until White returns. All will be held as scheduled, and the church will also have Mass outside the church on July 5.

"Our prayers are with Fr. White during his recovery," Delcambre added.
