Both victims identified in fatal crash on Evangeline Thruway, driver in custody

LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Coronor's Office has identified the boy who was struck and killed Saturday night while trying to cross the Evangeline Thruway with his mother.

Diego Ozenne, 8, and his mother Jasmun Ozenne were trying to cross the frontage road near Citi Trends on Evangeline Thruway on Saturday when they were struck by a vehicle, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

Police say that one died at the scene while the other died at the hospital.

The driver has been identified as Preston Edward, 60. He remains in the Lafayette Parish jail with bond set at $155,000 for two counts vehicular homicide and one count OWI, records show.
