Lafayette firefighters suspect that arson is to blame for a Tuesday morning house fire on Amite Drive.
Firefighters say they responded to a fire around 5:00 am at a mobile home in the 100 block of Amite Drive on Tuesday. Upon arrival the home was found to be completely engulfed in flames.
The blaze was brought under control within twenty minutes, but firefighters say the home sustained heavy damage.
Neighbors told firefighters that the home had been vacant for over a year. It was determined through an investigation that the dwelling did not have utilities and that the fire originated from inside the home. A cause of the fire is still being determined.
Firefighters say that the home was not secured and that individuals may have been able to enter the property without permission.
Anyone with information on the fire should contact the Lafayette Fire Department at 337-291-8716.
