Family and friends gathered today to celebrate the 100th birthday of Anne Cormier of Lafayette.

Cormier's actual birthday was Friday, but the party was today at Pizza Village.

Cormier is the daughter of Frank and Salvina Cormier, and was born near Milton "along the bayou." She was one of 14 children.

In 1939 she married Clarence "Bob" Benoit of Youngsville, and they were married until he died in 1964. They had four children during their 25 years of marriage. She now has six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Today, she continues her work as a seamstress, sewing for a local children's boutique.

What's her secret to a long life?

"The most important thing eat what you need and take care of yourself and keep that mind open never sit and feel sorry for yourself," she says. "Do something."
