A lot of 13-year-old boys have long lists of things they want for Christmas.
But Mark Smith wanted to help people who need it. He told his mom that, instead of buying him gifts, he'd like her to spend that money on supplies to help the homeless.
On Sunday, he set up a table in downtown Lafayette, and handed out bags of snacks, supplies and socks.
"I decided i wanted to do something for the homeless. We made bags, we made 26 bags, just for the homeless, so they have something to eat. It was my Christmas wish," he said.
Smith said he's always worried about homeless people, and he wanted to do something.
"I'm a helpful person. I like to help. And it's Christmas," he said.
Smith said he plans to make this an annual event.
"We're going to do this every year. Every year we'll get more and more supplies. We'll post on Facebook for donations, so around Christmas we can do the same thing, and hopefully we'll have more things," he said.
