LAFAYETTE, La. - A race for breast cancer awareness was held in the Oil Center on Friday and Saturday.

The first "24 in 24 2020 Breast Cancer Run" was a fundraiser where participants ran 24 miles in 24 hours. Participants ran four miles every four hours.

The 24 and 24 started out as a way of bringing awareness to the Real Men Wear Pink campaign which is a fundraiser for breast cancer and cancer.

"Hopefully, we can kind of parlay that into a little more awareness towards Real Men Wear Pink, breast cancer, and cancer in general," said Dr. Derick Hines, owner of Acadiana Pain and Performance. "In this area, we're all so affected by cancer, breast cancer. The more we can bring awareness to that, the more we can talk about it and raise money that actually gets put towards research, the better outcomes, the less we all have to be afraid of that diagnosis."
