24 cadets are now law enforcement officers after graduating from the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy.
A ceremony was held on Friday for the new officers at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Public Safety Complex.
The academy's training coordinator says the cadets completed 15 weeks and nearly 600 hours of academic and physical instruction. Lieutenant Mike Allelo says one of the best parts of the exciting day is seeing the cadets' families react to the milestone.
"It definitely takes a very special person, an individual to decide to get into this career," explained Lieutenant Mike Allelo. "Right now, that's exactly what we're looking for. Special individuals that want to get into this endeavor and make a change and make a difference in people's lives."
