State Police have released more details on the four-vehicle fatal crash that closed I-10 East in Lafayette Parish for several hours Wednesday night.

Troopers say the April 22 crash claimed the life of 19-year-old Ryan Alasia Johnson of Kentwood.

An investigation revealed that the crash occurred around 6:45 pm after a vehicle stopped on the inside eastbound lane of I-10, inside the construction zone, due to a flat tire.

Troopers say traffic began to slow in the eastbound lane just east of Louisiana Avenue when the initial crash occurred.

In that crash, troopers say a vehicle in which Johnson was a rear seat passenger struck the rear of a pickup truck.

According to state police, following the initial crash, a fourth vehicle struck the rear of Johnson's vehicle causing it to strike the jersey wall and come to a stop in the inside lane.

The fourth vehicle overturned and blocked the outside lane of traffic.

Troopers say Johnson was restrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead a the scene.

Injuries during the crash ranged from minor to moderate, according to troopers. Some drivers and occupants were taken to local hospitals.

Blood samples will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
