Families in Acadiana are enjoying some free food tonight after a large food distribution of food today over at the Cajundome.

It was put on by Second Harvest Food Bank and United Way of Acadiana.

Drivers remained in their cars as volunteers served and brought the food to the vehicles.

United Way reports that 115,000 pounds of food were distributed Wednesday, and 4,127 people received meals.

United Way President Carlee Alm-Labar says she enjoys seeing the community come together to help one another.

"I think it's both the gratitude on behalf of the volunteers as well as the people who are receiving the food. it really, when you're out here, you feel apart of one community and it's really inspiring and you know we all just want to help each other in our times of need," explained Alm-Labar.
