SCOTT, La. — One person is dead after an overnight house fire in the 200 block of Roger Road.
According to Scott fire chief Chad Sonnier, firefighters responded to the home just after midnight.
Upon arrival, firefighters say they observed a brick home engulfed in flames. Only minutes after arriving, the roof collapsed.
Chief Sonnier says that as firefighters advanced to the structure in an effort to extinguish the fire, a 63-year-old male resident was located.
His identity has not been released.
As a result of damage to the structure, investigators are continuing to identify the exact cause of the fire.
Firefighters from Carencro, Judice and Lafayette responded to assist.
Investigators with Lafayette Fire Department and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are conducting the investigation.
