A New Iberia woman has died following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night on La Hwy 677 in Iberia Parish.
The crash, which occurred around 2:00 pm near Little Guy Lane, claimed the life of 55-year-old Wendy Hebert Pete.
Trooper say that an initial investigation revealed that Pete was driving north on LA Hwy 677 when she attempted to pass an 18-wheeler.
Pete reportedly quickly steered her vehicle back into the northbound lane as another vehicle was approaching in the southbound lane.
As a result, Pete's vehicle struck the 18-wheeler.
State Police say that Pete was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. She later died of those injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was properly restrained and was not injured.
Toxicology results are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
