Barreling for a Cure was held today at the SugArena in New Iberia.
The purpose of the benefit barrel race (equine speed event) is to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children's Hospital and Emma Gracie Goldsboro.
Emma is a 16-month old Acadiana resident and is the daughter of Nathan and Cassie Goldsboro. She was diagnosed with high risk stage 4 neuroblastoma in July.
She will be at St. Jude for at least seven months undergoing treatment. Both Nathan and Cassie are with her.
Profits from the barrel race will be split between St. Jude and the family.
"Most of the people that came out here today are all volunteers. And so just for people to come together for such a special little girl and for all the children in St. Jude. It's just remarkable," said organizer Maria Vaughn.
