Patients relocated from Iberia Medical Center following outage

NEW IBERIA — Iberia Medical Center says they suffered a mechanical malfunction with their generators due to Tropical Storm Barry.

The outage happened around 1:08 a.m. and mechanics were dispatched and the generators were restored to full power at around 3:15 a.m., according to officials.

A generator technician is on site until CLECO power is restored.

Iberia Medical Center says that they went on generator power one hour before CLECO lost power. Because of this outage, the facility made the decision to continue a full evacuation.

All patients were evacuated to area hospitals safely as of 6:15 am on Sunday, July 14. Hospital staff is notifying family members as to location of the evacuated patients. The emergency department remains open but with limited capabilities. Acadian Ambulance has a unit stationed at the ER.
