South Louisiana Community College will offer a Phlebotomy Technician course in New Iberia in August.

SLCC says the program will provide students with the information and skills needed to collect blood specimens in a healthcare setting.

In this 10-week course evening course, students will have eight weeks of classroom instruction and two weeks of clinical training where they will learn the technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy. Books and a test voucher for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) are included in tuition.

According the Bureau of Labor, employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 23 percent from 2018 to 2028. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform bloodwork, a release states.

"With the rapid growth of the healthcare industry in New Iberia and surrounding areas, our Phlebotomy Technician program will help train individuals for in-demand jobs. We are confident that our Phlebotomy program will prepare students to become successful in the this industry," stated Kala Marks, Healthcare Program Manager for SLCC's Corporate College.
In addition to offering the short-term Phlebotomy course in New Iberia, SLCC's Corporate College offers a three-week Industrial Scaffold Building course and a seven-week Commercial Truck Driving (CDL) course.
