The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department says they are investigating the death of a 25-year-old inmate at the Iberia Parish Jail.
Deputies say that the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday afternoon, July 21.
According to the sheriff's office, staff attempted lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful.
The inmate was later pronounced dead.
An investigation is being conducted by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Investigations.
A cause of death will be determined by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.
The sheriff's office says the name of the inmate is not being released pending family notification.
